Planting strawberries

Just before I left for vacation, some strawberries that I had ordered came in - 50 plants, to be exact.

Although Hubby was home, it snowed all week, so the strawberries had to remain put up in the house. When I got back from vacation, I found they had already sprouted in their bags!

On Tuesday, Hubby planted them in a raised bed. It takes most berries a couple of years to start producing, so we know we won't get anything from them this year.

But we have three or four strawberry plants that we planted last year that did great even throughout the winter. They are sending off little shoots that will become more strawberry plants. We are looking forward to those juicy, ripe berries this year!

Hello, Barb,
I just happened to come across your blog as I was looking up information on planting strawberries. I too am making a journey towards self-sufficiency - rather God-sufficiency on a 1/3 acre urban homestead (for now) in a small town outside a major city. I believe I shall enjoy following your family's progress. I'm new at this kind of lifestyle trying to regain much of what has been lost so I am certain I can learn from you.
Got my bare root strawberry plants the other day. I thought they were dead, just a bunch of roots :-) See... much to learn. Sonya
